Product description

The Royal Mint has prepared a new series of silver coins dedicated to the most famous British music groups. The first one is none other than Queen.

Rebels, showmen, visionaries, legends
- these are the Queen who got together in 1970, exactly 50 years ago. The quartet of Freddie Mercury (vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), John Deacon (bass guitar, keyboards) and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals) gave the world tender ballads as well as stadium hard rock, rhythmic funk and ethereal gospels, and moreover, opera madness that seems to have come from another world…

The artist
Chris Facey placed the band's logo on the reverse side of the coin, surrounded by musical instruments - Brian May's Red Special guitar, Ludwig Roger Taylor´s drums, John Deacon's Fender Precision bass guitar and Freddie Mercury's Bechstein piano along with a stick microphone. Music experts will notice that the three keys pressed on the keyboard correspond to the initial tones of Bohemian Rhapsody. The obverse side of the coin belongs to the attributes of the issuer – i.e. the nominal value of 1 POUND (GBP), the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. and the text "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D" (Elizabeth II, the Queen by the Grace of God, protector of the faith).

The coin is set in a
special frame that evokes a vinyl record.
