The medieval knight was the ideal of man, which means a fearless warrior, a selfless protector and a devoted believer. Who else could wrest the Holy Land from the clutches of the Saracens? Who else could care for the multitudes of defenseless Christians wandering to the birthplace of Christ? Few determined warriors, operating far from home, gradually grew into organized communities, so the first orders of chivalry were formed. At first, they were modest and mindful of the virtues of chivalry. But soon their fame, power and wealth eclipsed many a monarch. Some orders have fallen, others have endured to this day, but all, without distinction, irritate our imagination. Michal Vitanovský will present their turbulent and mysterious fates.
