Old Picture Postcards

The Czech Mint dedicated a gold mini coin set in a replica of a historical postcard to Kutná Hora situated in Central Bohemia.

Kutná Hora
used to be a privileged royal city and treasury of the whole country. It was rich in silver ore and famous for minting coins - legendary Prague groschen, which gained popularity far beyond the borders of the Czech kingdom at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. The St. Barbara´s Church, the patron saint of miners, became proof of the extraordinary wealth, but also of the great piety of local people. The rich postcard creation became a proof of the considerable tourist popularity and fame at the end of the 19th century.… Beautiful window lithography that served as a model for coin packaging, was published by the local publisher Alois Jelínek in 1900. In a small area, it presents a number of Kutná Hora monuments, including a late Gothic church and the Italian Court, which served as a mint and a royal palace.

The medal maker
Ludmila Kracíková, DiS. dedicated the reverse side of the coin to the St. Barbara´s Church and its neo-Gothic façade, which, like the postcard, dates back the end of the 19th century. The building is supplemented with an inscription KUTNÁ HORA. The obverse side then belongs to the portrait and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2021 and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD), which are the attributes of the island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to mint its own commemorative coins.

The original issue represents an available collector's piece that will delight numismatists, philokartists, residents and visitors coming to Znojmo.
