Old Picture Postcards
The Czech Mint dedicated a gold mini coin inserted in a replica of a historical postcard to Znojmo in South Moravia.
The royal city situated on the river Dyje abounds in a number of important monuments, which have always attracted visitors and inspired postcard creation. The historic heart of the city is full of winding streets and churches, the Znojmo underground is the largest in the Czech Republic and the local wine and cucumbers are famous far and wide. However, the rotunda of St. Catherine with Romanesque murals, which depicts Přemysl Oráč, is truly unique. The color lithographic postcard, which served as a model for the packaging of the coin, was issued by Theodor Böhm's printing house in Nové Město nad Metují in 1897 and it was sent to Roudnice nad Labem in 1898. The franked stamp was torn off from the address side, which is quite common on historical postcards. Three shots in a decorative floral decor capture the overall view of the city from the river, the monastery complex and the railway viaduct of the local first railway from 1870.
The medal maker Ludmila Kracíková, DiS., dedicated the reverse side of the coin to the Rotunda of St. Catherine, which is supplemented with an inscription ZNOJMO. The obverse side then belongs to the portrait and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2020 and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD), which means the attributes of the island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to mint its own commemorative coins.
The original issue represents an available collector's piece that will please numismatists, deltiologists and residents and visitors to Znojmo.
