The Slovak silver euro coin was minted in proof quality on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jozef Kroner.

Jozef Kroner was born into a large family. His father, a railwayman, was a passionate theatre director who directed amateur actors and cast his young children in plays. As an adult, Jozef worked as a labourer, but his love of acting remained and he worked his way up from volunteering to acting in the drama department of the Slovak National Theatre in 1956. By that time he had also played his first roles on the silver screen. During his lifetime he made 57 films, over a hundred television films and productions and 14 TV series. His phenomenal success was The Shop on the Corniche, which won the prestigious Oscar in 1966 as the first Czechoslovak film. It wasn't the only film starring Jozef Kroner to garner worldwide acclaim - The Thousand-Year-Old Bee also earned an Oscar nomination. The Slovak actor was at his best in comedies, where he could spread his lively optimism and warm humanity. In his performances, the greatness of small people stood out, as best demonstrated by the legendary series imbued with folklore and folk humour, Slovácko sa nesúdí.

The reverse side of the coin is dominated by a portrait of the actor supplemented with his signature, name and life years - JOZEF KRONER, 1924-1998. The obverse side presents theatrical masks, a film strip and the figure of Anton Brtka from the Oscar-winning Shop on the Corniche. The composition of the obverse side is supplemented with the inscription SLOVAKIA, the state emblem, the nominal value of 10 EURO and the year of issue 2024.

The coin was minted by the Slovak Mint Mincovňa Kremnica and issued by the National Bank of Slovakia.
