The three wise men whom the starlight brought to Bethlehem, where they paid tribute to the newborn Messiah, brought with them precious gifts. Balthazar's gift was incense - a fragrant mixture used during religious ceremonies and meditations. Kašpar brought myrrh - a resin that is an important component of incense and various ointments. Myrrh was highly appreciated and its value even exceeded its weight in gold in ancient times. Gifts then became an integral part of the Lord's Nativity celebrations. In the Middle Ages, children became red apples at Christmas as a symbol of health, young virgins were gifted with pearls, which were a symbol of purity, and a coin made of precious metal became traditional gift too. The obverse side of the silver medal, which was processed by the medal maker Ludmila Kracíková, DiS., is dominated by Three Kings with gifts in their hands. The reverse side then presents Jesus Christ with a halo in the crib, above which the Star of Bethlehem shines. Both sides are connected by a decorative vault.
