Product description

Silver half-a-kilo investment medal Statutory town of Chomutov stand

This year, Czech Mint continues minting silver medals with motifs of the Czech Republic’s statutory towns. Two medals of the “town series“ are issued each year, and because there are 24 statutory towns, the medals are – in addition to being an advantageous collection – also valuable collector items as the complete set will multiply the value of separate pieces. The first medal of the series issued in 2011 was dedicated to the West Bohemian town of Plzeň. Statutory towns in the Czech Republic can be described as towns with wider powers headed by a city mayor. They include the capital of Prague, all regional towns and 11 other
cities. Each of the medals is struck in two weights: 1,000 g and 500 g. The second medal of the series is dedicated to the town of Chomutov.

The obverse side features a panoramic view of the historical centre of Chomutov in a sector of a circle, and the church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary with the municipal tower – three-dimensionally depicted. There is also the indication of weight and an assay mark, the name of the town “Chomutov“ is placed on the right. The motif of the reverse side is the same for all medals in the series. In the background there is a raster grid with names of all statutory towns and a projecting map of the Czech Republic with plotted rivers, mountain ranges and all the 24 towns. The inscription at the lower rim of the reverse side reads “Statutární města České  republiky” (Statutory Towns of the Czech Republic).
