Czech and Czechoslovak Hockey Legends

The Legends of Czechoslovak Hockey cycle is being closed. The Czech Mint dedicated the silver coin to Martin Ručinský, the last "golden boy" from Nagano.

"Růča"
won two Olympic medals - gold from Nagano 1998 and bronze from Turin 2006 - and three gold medals from the World Championships in 1999, 2001 and 2005, which was thanks to his fast legs and accurate shots. Martin Ručinský helped seven teams to achieve success during his long career in the NHL. However, Litvínov in the Czech Republic was his fate. "When I was about five years old, I was already into hockey, because Litvínov was a hockey town and I really wanted to be on ice. I persuaded my dad to get me some skates. He didn't even go to the ice with me. He just threw me over the boards and let me be, " the hockey player says with a smile. "Less than forty years later, I stood in the same place with the cup for the winners of the extra league (season 2014/2015) - with the cup that generations and generations of local boys tried to win. Suddenly I began to feel that I was unmotivated after winning the cup. I will never cease to appreciate what the fate brought me, " adds Ručinský, who ended up with hockey at the very top of his career and who became the member of the Czech Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019.

Academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů
placed a charismatic portrait of Martin Ručinský from the time of the triumph in Nagano on the reverse side of the coin. Since the coins of the Czech Mint are licensed by a foreign issuer, the state of Samoa, their obverse side bears its essential attributes - the state coat of arms, the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (WST) and the year of the issue 2020.

Remember that you can store the complete collection of fourteen hockey coins in a special
collector's case in the form of a puck.
