Product description

In the year when we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of František Kupka, a silver coin of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 200 CZK has been minted in top quality proof.

František Kupka
was a remarkable man and artist. As a legionary, he fought for the establishment of the new republic - he organised Czechoslovak troops in France, was wounded at the front, reached the rank of captain and was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honour. As a painter, graphic artist and illustrator, he fought for the creation of a new kind of art. He began with descriptive realism and admiration for the work of Josef Mánes, but eventually became a pioneer of modern abstraction, with his strong relationship to spirituality, mysticism and music playing an important role. Kupka's abstract paintings are among the most valuable Czech works even today.

The design by sculptor
Adam Alva Fejfar won the art competition of the Czech National Bank. The expert committee particularly appreciated "the imaginative interconnection of the obverse and reverse sides of the coin by composing partial motifs from the works of František Kupka" and the treatment of the painter's portrait on the reverse side.

The Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou
is the exclusive producer of Czech coins - both commemorative and circulation.
