Silver coin 2 Oz Wonderland

The two-ounce silver coin featuring the fairy-tale motif of Alice in Wonderland is a unique work of art and engineering, as well as a collector’s rarity.
At a time when Victorian England prided itself on order, rationality, and strict social rules, a book emerged that turned this stifling world upside down. Alice in Wonderland was written by Lewis Carroll as a playful story for children, one that, instead of moralizing, sparked the imagination. It quickly became clear, however, that this was a much deeper work. The author was, after all, a mathematician and logician by profession, who experimented while writing with what happens when logic ceases to apply. He described a world seen through the eyes of a growing child for whom the confusing existence of adults makes no sense. He poked fun at the morals, educational system, politics, and authorities of the time. He demonstrated that our own world is no less absurd and crazy than the dream world. It is therefore no wonder that adults also fell in love with the adventures of the girl who fell down the rabbit hole…
The reverse side of the coin is dominated by the eccentric Cheshire Cat, surrounded by other whimsical inhabitants of Wonderland - the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, the smoking Caterpillar, and the Queen of Hearts. Naturally, the relief also features Alice herself, falling into the world of fantasy. All of this stands out in high relief, accentuated by patina and selective gilding. The richly decorated obverse side is dedicated to the essential attributes of the coin’s issuer, the island of Niue - it bears its coat of arms, the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD), and the year of issue 2026.
The mintage of this coin by T&S Coin is limited to just 500 pieces.
