Product description

Silver coin featuring the legendary Native American chief Geronimo is a unique work of art and a collector's rarity.

In the second half of the 19th century, a struggle for survival took place on the arid plains of Arizona and New Mexico. The proud members of the Apache nation were imprisoned in reservations and lost their freedom. At that time, a man rose from among them whose name became legendary. He was born Goyahkla – "He Who Yawns" – but went down in history as Geronimo. It is possible that he owed this nickname to the cries of frightened Mexican soldiers who invoked Saint Jerome when they clashed with him. The Indian shaman and chief hated the Mexicans because they had murdered his mother, wife, and children. Legend has it that as he prayed over their bodies in tears, he heard a voice promising him that no bullet would kill him. From that moment on, he lived only for revenge and for the freedom of his people. He was pursued by both Mexicans and Americans, but Geronimo became an elusive spirit. With a handful of warriors, he managed to resist multiple superior forces time and time again. He moved unnoticed, knowing every canyon and every trail. He knew how to disappear into the shadows of the mountains and the endless desert, only to reappear after weeks of hiding and strike where no one expected it. But even the bravest warrior cannot resist forever. In 1886, Geronimo was surrounded and forced to surrender. He spent the rest of his life as a prisoner of war, far from his native land. The bullet did not kill him – he died of pneumonia. His name then became synonymous with resistance. Those who shout it still draw courage from it today...

The reverse side of the coin depicts Geronimo sitting in a camp, clutching a gilded rifle in his hands. He is accompanied not only by his horse, but also by his loyal comrades-in-arms. The obverse side is dedicated to an inexhaustible number of weapons, revealing that the coin is part of a series dedicated to legendary warriors. As the coin is issued with the license of a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, its obverse also bears the necessary attributes – the national emblem, the nominal value of FIVE DOLLARS (NZD), and the year of issue 2024.

The issue limit of the coin by T&S Coin is only 500 pieces.
