Product description

The Czech flag

The flag, which was used by Czechoslovaks in the past and which is used by the Czechs today, was created 100 years ago. The Czech Mint issued a silver coin weighing ten troy ounces on the occasion of this jubilee.

lags belong to the most widely used state symbols, and when Czechoslovakia was established in 1918, of course, it could not miss the flag. Its design was inspired by the military battalion of the Czech Kingdom, which dates back to the middle of the 13th century and which consisted of two horizontal stripes - the upper white and lower red. However, this solution had several shortcomings. The red and white combination represented only Bohemia and Moravia, but did not take into account Slovakia and Subcarpathian Russia, which formed an important part of the young republic. Another problem was the fact that the same flag was used by neighboring Poland. Therefore, the flag was modified in 1920 and a blue triangular wedge was inserted between the stripes. The elegant and unmistakable solution has become a symbol of statehood, which we use to this day, and the shape of the flag has changed only once during that time. The Protectorate's flag consisted of three horizontal stripes - white, red and blue during the Nazi occupation, however our exile representation continued to use a motif that we all know and that we are justifiably proud of.
