In summer the sun-lit colourful earth radiates optimism and warmth, it gives out its small and great treasures. Inspired by its admirable creativity Czech Mint together with foremost artists prepared an exceptional egg-shaped jewel with summer motives. It hides a splendid silver coin denominated 2 NZD. By this issue Czech Mint pays tribute to the famous master jeweller Gustav Fabergé, born 200 years ago, a man who made his spectacular jewels for Russian aristocracy and the imperial family. It was especially the jewels in the shape of eggs that made his Petersburg workshop famous worldwide. That’s why Czech Mint decided to use these splendid jewels as cases for selected Smart coins from the series Gustav Fabergé.
All eggs serving as luxurious cases for coins included in Czech Mint’s series “Gustav Fabergé“ were created by talented goldsmith Alexandr Belov; they are distinguished from each other by an original motif. The reverse of the gold NZD 50 coin was designed by outstanding medal maker Asamat Baltaev, it features the portrait of the icon of jewellers Gustav Fabergé, the year of his birth (1814), the year of issue (2014) and his name. The obverse created by the same artist shows a miniature of the egg-shaped jewel, the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, denomination of the coin NZD 50, and the name of the issuer – Niue Island. Gold one-ounce coins packaged in luxurious cases are numbered on the edge and delivered with a velvet folder containing a certificate of origin on a handmade paper and a lithograph with the portrait of Gustav Fabergé.
