Ottokar I of Bohemia (in German Ottokar I. Přemysl; b. ca 1155/1167? – d.15 December 1230) was a Czech prince and the third Czech king (1198–1230) of the Přemyslid family. He was the first Czech king who managed to secure a hereditary royal title for his successors.

A great diplomat, Ottokar I of Bohemia guided himself by the principle “the end justifies the means“. However, he knew how to use force whenever he considered it necessary. With this approach, he established very good relations of the Czech kingdom with the empire and strengthened the position of the king in the country. During his long reign he laid stable foundations of the Czech state, on which his successors could build.

The obverse side of the ducat features half-figure of Ottokar I of Bohemia, inspired by the relief from St. George Basilica at the Prague Castle and the king’s majestic seal.

As in the case of the 100ducat, the motif on the reverse side was inspired by the royal seal with an inscription in Latin, which also uses the heavenly authority of St. Wenceslas, in whose name king reigns over the Czech kingdom. The saint is accompanied with details from the relief mentioned above, and the kneeling king.
