Wimbledon first held in 1877 and still being played on traditional outdoor courts with a grassy surface is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. It is also considered to be the most prestigious tennis event, while the patronage of the British royal family contributes to its charm.
To win at this contest means to achieve immortality, which means honour that came to five Czechs: Jaroslav Drobný (1954), Jan Kodeš (1973), Martina Navrátilová (1978-1979, 1982-1987, 1990), Jana Novotná (1998) and Petra Kvitova (2011, 2014).
